Breast Care: Mastitis Treatment

A breast care appointment will involve us taking a detailed history of your current symptoms and breastfeeding journey in order to determine the most appropriate treatment for you.
Therapeutic Ultrasound and Laser Therapy
Therapeutic ultrasound is likely to be used to help unblock milk ducts, decrease inflammation and increase circulation to improve the flow of milk. We also offer Low Level Laser Therapy which can assist with nipple pain and trauma, this is completely pain free.
We will also tailor advice and strategies to help you self manage at home and we liaise closely with your lactation consultant or midwife for feeding education etc.
If using ultrasound and/or laser therapy you can expect an average of 2-3 physio sessions within a week for treatment to be most effective but this varies case by case.
Urgent Mastitis Treatment
Due to the quick onset of mastitis symptoms we offer emergency breast care appointments. If you are unable to find availability online PLEASE CALL us on 0421248853 or email us at [email protected] and we will do our best to find you an appointment as soon as possible.
If you have a high temperature that does not come down and continue to feel very unwell, please present to your GP, failing that, present to ED.
Ongoing Breast Care Physio
We know that once you have an episode of mastitis you are more likely to have subsequent episodes, this is where your physio toolkit comes in! We will teach you early management strategies that you can implement as soon as you feel symptoms coming on, specifically breast mobilisation and massage techniques that are really effective!
